Five Sea Songs - Jakub was inspired first by poems of Katrina Porteous written in the old dialect of Northumbrian fishermen, which is dying out and now hardly spoken by anyone. That is how the Five Sea Songs (ballads – fates) came into existence.

The Melly-Belly Songs - Later Jakub chose to work on five poems by Keith Armstrong. He joined them in a cycle, characterized by the typical span of Keith’s style – a contrast between, on the one hand, lyricism and nostalgia and, on the other, blistering humour and sarcasm, turning even to social and political satire.

Songs comprise one important part of Zahradník’s work. His music combines a depth of expression, refined style and wide musical range, which extends from piano improvisations, through chansons to choir and chamber-symphonic works.
